Really Nice Fun Bike and Good Value
I gotta say I’m pretty impressed with this bike out of the box — shifting and brakes were adjusted perfectly and wheels were fairly true but the hubs were a little tight, but easily adjustable and now very smooth. Wheels and hubs seem like they are built to last and are not very heavy at all, even with the tires.
The Shimano shifting and Tektro brakes are great — better than what came on a $2k ’boutique’ bike I bought a few years ago. The rest of the parts are almost as good — hub engagement is not bad at all for a budget hub, also much better than my previous more expensive bike. Gearing is totally adequate for me at least with even steps between gears which is nice, plenty of low for climbing, but could run out of gears on really fast downhills.
Frame seems great — Lightweight, seems well engineered, everything bolts on smoothly and straight, and the welds are all good and visible which I like better than the toothpaste looking welds on some bikes. Can take an internal dropper too. Fits me perfectly based on the website suggestion, but I still need more rides to tell about the stem for sure.
The bike rolls smooth and fast! Can really cover ground with the 29er. This bike climbs great and is really comfortable. I climbed a big hill in my neighborhood just because and I never do that! I LOVE the orange color!
The seat and grips are much better than expected, and the pedals are ok too — very light and spin smooth and should get better with use. I thought I’d swap all those out immediately but have decided to try them all longer. The tires are also pretty good, not too heavy, roll ok on pavement/hardpack, and pretty good in the dirt so far. Another pleasant surprise.
The only real gripe I have with this bike is the fork — it is really heavy and just so-so in performance. I did ride with it for a day but then I swapped it out for a lighter air spring fork. Not a terribly expensive upgrade and the performance increase is incredible — wheelie game is much improved haha! And yes, this bike wheelies great!
My first real BMX bike in the 70s was a Mongoose Motomag — it’s GOOD to be back on a Mongoose!
**Upgrading this to 5 stars from 4 because I realized the hardware to upgrade to 12×148 rear wheel is built into the frame! No additional dropout hardware needed! Upgrade at your own pace if desired. Love this bike!**

Bad brake/great service
This bike was a big upgrade for me and I’m really enjoying it! My last ride was a $175 Walmart dinosaur so naturally this is a big improvement. I ride 2-3 times a week on flat trails in Northwest Bay County Florida. This bike can probably handle more of the hardcore downhill stuff with some upgrades to the fork and drive train. Anyone interested in that would probably choose a different bike anyways. The SX system is the lowest end of the Sram Eagle series but perfect for my needs. I was using 26 inch wheels before (yeah, my bike was so old 26ers were still popular) so these 29ers are way better. The body on this bike looks and feels very high end. The seat is very padded and more comfy than I thought it would be. I had a full suspension before but loving the hardtail. It’s just more simple and lightweight. It has not been uncomfortable to ride the way I use it. I like the 1Ã12 system also. I won’t need these easy gears too much since it’s so flat here in Florida. I was a bit worried the gear range would be limited but I can definitely fly on this bike. It’s pretty fast!
I did have one problem with the front brake system. The hydraulic fluid had leaked out and the brake didn’t work. There was an oily spot in the box. I took it down the road to the bike tech and he confirmed that. I was hoping he could fix it but he only replaces hydraulic systems. He was also backed up 3 weeks because everyone and their brother is buying bikes during Covid. I asked his opinion of the bike and he was impressed. I called Pacific Cycles and they sent me out a new break system. I came in 3 days and took 5 minutes to replace. I was naturally disappointed a bit when the bike came that way but still rating it high. Who knows what happened and the service after the sale was what mattered.

Ready to go ride on some dirt!
This purchase was a splurge. Wanted to mountain bike to go ride around on the weekends and hit some trails with friends. First off I must admit I am a novice. As I know these bikes can get crazy technical and expensive, I would consider this a bike to be a good bang for your buck. The assembly was pretty straightforward. Just need some Allen Wrenches. Unpacking and assembly took me about 30-40 minutes.
Bike feels very well built. Has nice front shocks and beefy tires. The bike is much more substantial than I anticipated. I got a Medium Frame and it fits great! I am about 5’8″. It has some really nice components on it.
So far it has been awesome! Hit a few trails last weekend and it performed great. Might upgrade the pedals to be more aggressive, but that is just so my feet stick more. Personal preference.

too many problems out of the box
I got this while on sale so it looked like an incredible bargain. What arrived though was completely unusable.
The shifter failed right out of the box. Searching for a fix, I found out that the SX shifter has a problem with becoming stuck. The bike could not be shifted into any other gears.
It does not come with the NX derailleur that is shown in the photos.
The front wheel was warped and out of round. I adjusted the calipers as best as I could and there was still rubbing on the front rotor. The brakes provided very little stopping power. Nothing compared to bite the magura mt5 on my other bike.
The bottom bracket had grease all over it and the rear brake cable routed underneath actually touched the bottom bracket on the side and had grease on it.
On the one good note. This bike is super light. It’s like handling a roll of tissue when you’re used to lifting a 60 pound bike for a few years.
That being said, it was not good to go out of the box and for the considerable cost, it boxed up and returned.
