Gets the job done, with style
First time electric mower use, and you better believe I was skeptical going in. I ultimately ordered the GreenWorks G-MAX 40V 19-inch mower because we had just moved from no-yard to rear-and-front yard, and spring wasn’t going to wait for us to make a decision. Astute readers will observe that two batteries are compatible with this unitâa 2 amp-hour and a 4 amp-hour, rated for about 30 minutes of continuous mowing or 60, respectively. Let’s get to pros/cons:
PROS:
– Prime shipping. Once a decision was made, this was at the porch before the grass could grow another inch.
– Out-of-the-box operation. I had received the battery and charger a day ahead, so I just had to assemble and go. Assembly required no tools and took mere minutes. Because the GreenWorks is battery operated, there was no trip to a gas station with a can, no two cycle oil to measure, and none of the other issues that can come with that.
– Interchangeable, ample battery. The mower was on sale, so I used the savings and got the GreenWorks string weed trimmer. Once I was finished the front and rear lawns (the same afternoon, minutes after unpacking the mower, without leaving the house), I popped the battery out of the mower, into the trimmer, and continued to clean up edges. The 4 amp-hour battery has a built-in gauge which still showed one out of four “dots” by the time I placed it conveniently in the charger. I now also have peace of mind of the garage being that less flammable and noxious.
– Lightweight and adjustable wheel height.
– Included interchangeable bag attachment (very light).
CONS:
– Reduction of global warming. Chance to survive make your time.
– Reduced stress.
– Fewer opportunities to sneak unhealthy snacks from gas station trips.
– Too easy to start. Protip: Need to remember to unplug the battery when reaching under the mower (don’t worry, I followed this advice)
– Bueller?

Better than my Gas mower!
Was worried about power, suction and battery life. Live in Southern California. Had other garden tools using the same battery, so bought open box for 180 bucks. Came perfect. Was very impressed. Assembly easy. Started up without a problem. Like others said, quiet, does the job. Used level 3 for hight and it picks up leafs, grass and stuff. I was worried but should have not been. For a 20 minutes job, uses 1/2 the battery, which surprised me in a positive way. Mow once a week. All good. 5 stars. Go for it.

Great first electric LM!
I bought the 19″ steel deck mower (2501302). It’s really quiet, compared to gas. Sounds like a box fan. Quiet enough for me to listen to music while I cut without making my ears bleed.
The motor is strong enough to power thru tough weeds. It is slightly annoying the way it automatically adjusts to the load so that it conserves power without sacrificing much in terms of cutting performance. I get it, although I wish the automatic setting also came with the option to control throttle manually. It’s only a small complaint because though I feel like I need to pace myself more to compensate for the mower’s own automatic speed adjustments, I haven’t noticed much sloppy cuting. A slow and steady pace may work best at all times.
The power consumption is pretty high, I think. I use non OEM 6,000mAh (supposedly) batteries, and it has burned thru one of those in less than an hour. Comparatively, using the same batteries with the 20″ hedge trimmers that come in the PSPH40B00 bundle, I can cut continuously for 45mins and use a little more than a quarter of the battery. I’ve also used the same batteries to power my 13inch string trimmer (21332) for over 1.5hrs (almost non-stop) with a quarter or more of charge left. Apples and oranges, to be sure, but it’s certainly notable that it does consume a considerable amount of energy. Those batteries I have take about 1.5hrs each to charge in my C-400 quick chargers, so if you need to cut for extended periods of time, just have enough batteries to rotate through a continuous charge/discharge cycle.
I love the simplicity! Looking at the exploded view, the only critical part is the actual motor itself. The rest is just body covers and fasteners. It’s great because it means very little maintenance. The only caveat is that if something does go critically wrong, there’s a high chance that you’ll need a new machine. At this pricepoint, though (got mine for $170), buying a new one would be cheaper than most conventional gas lawnmowers of the same class.
The bag is a little smaller than I’m used to, but I feel like it’s a little longer. It is easier for me to dump the clippings from the discharge bag into another bag because the mouth of the discharge bag is small enough to fit into another bag. It probably holds about 1/4 less than the bag for my 21″ gas mower does.
Lastly, it’s a bit heavier than I expected. It’s still quite a bit lighter than my gas mowers, though. It’s certainly not recommended to use on slopes greater than 15°, but it’s pretty versatile in nonconventional applications because it can still work well when (CAREFULLY) operated at an angle, unlike gasoline mowers.
In my opinion, you can’t beat it, for the price! Just be sure to make it part of a set so you can get the most for your money. I’m just getting around to using it, so I plan to update this review if the need arises.

First battery powered lawn mower
I moved to a new house with a much smaller yard and I figured I would down size. I wanted to give battery powered a chance because my wife really wants to mow (which I have no complaints about haha) but she hasn’t been able to unless I’m home to start the mower for her. It was a Honda so it started very well for me. Once I got this thing assembled, which took no time, she was off mowing away. She was able to mow the back yard before the battery died and this was straight out of the box. I’ve since bought the weed eater and it is very convenient to be able to swap the batteries if need be or have two batteries and we can both tag team it. I plan on getting the 40v air compressor as well and since I have two batteries already I can opt for the tool only and save some cash. The adjustments for height of cut is extremely simple and fast. It can be done with one hand. The handle does feel a little light compared to my Honda but for a battery operated anything I can’t complain. It’s not self propelled but it is very light and since we don’t have any hills or tall grass it’s not a deal breaker. The “engine” speeds up and slows down depending on the load put on the blades. Mowing through thick wetish grass will cause it to power up more while just normal work let’s you save energy. I’ve only bagged once so far and it catches well. The mulch plug could be a little tighter to stop small grass from working through but it’s not bad at all. Good mower all around.
