Great computer if a little expensive
Easy to use, bright screen, long battery life. This was a nice upgrade from my edge 520. Lots of neat little features and it works really well with all of my other ant plus devices

best head unit out there
The battery life is insane. Unless you’re doing very long days in the backcountry off-road and away from any charging opportunities, the solar is a complete waste. I get over 2 weeks of training at ~300mi/wk (road/gravel) out of one charge and even after all that the battery will still be at 30%, more than enough for a couple centuries. After a year or nearly daily use I have noticed no loss of capacity.
Easy to navigate, the monochrome LCD data screens are perfect…no wasting energy on colors, graphics, or animations no one needs. The screen is massive and easy to see but the unit is quite thin making for a minimal profile.
Even in hard rain it’s rare to get false input on the touch screen.
This puts wahoo’s sad button-only interface and karoo’s ‘barely can get through one ride’ battery life to shame.

Works Great
I had another bike computer, but it was hard to read and didn’t cover all the needs i had for stats. This one works great for both bikes I use and it also works for my stationary bike as well. Glad I bought it and would recommend it for anyone else. Easy to set up and reads well while riding. Great battery life.

Slim, easy to read
This unit fits on top of the Raveman light perfectly giving a clean, modern sleek look to the front of my bike.
Pretty easy to set up. I am not sure Battery life is as stated when set to best position accuracy which was a little disappointing and surprising when it failed on a ride after I didn’t recharge overnight. Oh well, changed a setting and recharge ahead of each ride so all good.
The display is really nice, big and very clear. Courses work pretty well once you select the correct course 😉 Climb pro is great enabling me to happily huff and puff my way up the hills.
It Syncs immediately with my HR monitor, ROTOR 2InPower power meter, Shimano 8150 groupset, and speed sensor working flawlessly, every time.
Overall happy, but IMO, Garmin SW usability could be improved further. Also, way to many beeps.

Powerful bike computer with all the bells and whistles
I canât find anything negative to say about this cycling computer. It holds a charge for weeks and collects all the data I could ask for and more. The turn by turn directions are clear and helpful. No regrets with this purchase. My only complaint is that I didnât buy one sooner.

Worth the money
If youâre looking for the top end bike computer, this is it. Hammerhead and Wahoo both come close imho, but check out dcrainmakerâs review, I think only if youâre looking for a few niche features should you pick those. The Garmin has a battery that will last for days (literally), and if you ride a few hours a day, you could probably go all week. It has a beautiful, bright display, and if you are having issues with near vision, this will help. The power guide feature new to the 40 series is excellent. I have used course power profiling in the past on other head units through extensions, but having it built in is so much more convenient, it makes it much more usable. Navigation is superb – not substantially different from prior Garmin headunits, but it has a noticeably faster processor, allowing much faster initial route finding (it does provide a few routes, which I think is new, and you choose the one you want), and much faster re-routing if you get off course. I recently did a 50 mile mtb race with it, and loved having the big map with the elevation profile for descents, it lets you really rip where you can, and see the turns and climbs coming up.

Best Bike Monitor On the Market
I came from a Wahoo Monitor so this was a major upgrade. I really love the data and the turn by turn directions. The only thing is to record your data to strava, you will need to have the Garmin app, and the data from the monitor has to upload to to the app first, before it goes to your Strava data. So sometimes It may take a minute or two for the data to upload to the Garmin app. Not a big deal, just a part of technology.

Works Like A Charm
After having the Garmin 1030 Plus this 1040 is quite an improvement. Nicer display and so much easier to program and operate.

Love the gadget!
I was contemplating if I should get the new1050, 1040-Solar or just the regular 1040.
The price difference helped me make the choice. This model was about $400 (CND) cheaper than the first two. (At least during the time of Black Friday deals).
And I don’t feel like I’m loosing any value for the money. The charge seems to last forever. I had two rides of around 2 hrs each, and I’m still at almost 90%. I’m very happy with that, as I don’t mind plugging it into the charger once a week or so. The display is very good, and the loading/connecting time seems fast, so I don’t feel like paying additional $ for the 1050 was going to be worth it. I don’t regret going the step-down.
