HANDMADE IN SPAIN: Meinl Artisan Edition Cajons are hand-crafted masterpieces built in Spain by renown luthier Jose ‘Pepote’ Hernandez Diaz; no big assembly lines here—only highly skilled small batch construction with the finest wood selections
WHY IT MATTERS: Pepote is a master cajon craftsman; he’s tested countless wood combinations and varnishes, created a special unbreakable snare string, designed baffles and pop filters—the list goes on; everything he does revolves around chasing the best
TONEWOODS USED: a 7-ply Baltic birch body and Baltic birch frontplate deliver rich, punchy, and balanced tone (Baltic birch is also used in high-end drum set construction for players serious about sound)
DRIVING THE SNARE SOUND: spanning the frontplate inside are two fixed sets of three custom, hand wound micro-coiled steel cajon strings for a beautifully lush snare tone; they’re pre-tuned to create a sensitive touch and won’t require adjustment

    The more I play it, the more impressed I become
    I spent a lot of time reading reviews and watching youtube videos leading up to my first cajon purchase. I could not have been happier. The price point and build quality of this cajon are stellar in my opinion, but what will really impress you is the sound quality.Right out of the box, I was confused by the sound quality. It wasn’t what I expected, but now that I’ve been playing it for a few months, I can tell you that it’s because I just didn’t know what I was doing. But now… I get solid bass, resonant tom-like midrange, and two distinctly different snare sounds – one is lower and meaty and the other is higher and snappy (my favorite for playing along with funky tunes).Unlike some instruments, the learning process is extremely fun. I’m at a point where I’m working on fine tuning my playing and developing technique, but I have zero doubts about this cajon fitting the needs of any jam session I can throw at it.

    Number 1, it’s got great tone. It’s also made of great tone woods, is quality built, and fairly attractive. We’re having a ton of fun playing along to songs and creating beats and fills. Recommended!

    Beautiful cajón, which has now been played for probably hundreds of hours! Sounds great and has been used in acoustic and mic’d up scenarios, on big stages, and even appeared live on radio last night! I honestly can’t fault it :)I’ve dragged it around venues (in a bag – get one!), accidentally knocked it about a bit, been rained on and it’s been squashed by 90kg of me for all this time, and it is still just as perfect as the day it arrived. Definitely recommend.

    Les finitions et le design sont très beaux mais je ne l’ai pas gardé car niveau son ce n’était pas du tout ce que je recherchais. Beaucoup de reverb et trop d’aigu, j’ai opté pour le meinl artisan cantina line beaucoup plus puissant dans les basses.
