Fun retro gaming handheld
This inexpensive Gameboy style retro gaming handheld is a fantastic value. It features a beautiful 3.5 inch, fully laminated screen. No screen protector needed. Controls feel substantial and accurate. It includes an SD card, installed, jam packed with a variety of retro games. Exceptional battery life. Easy menu system with many choices. Sound is crisp and clear. It includes an earphone jack and an HDMI out. Games run smoothly. Many features. I’m happy I bought this gaming handheld. I hope it lasts a long time. I might buy a another in transparent black. Take the time to read the short instruction manual provided. It is helpful.

games are def pirated, potentially illegal device.
It plays games but the menus suck. good screen, not great, but full ips with good viewing angles, sound is ok. definitely made for smaller than adult hands.

awesome nostaligia + video player
This thing is great. It has an amazing amount of games on it, that I cannot even count. It says 4,371 games in the listing, although I am not sure if I would say there are that many. I would have guessed maybe 700-1000. But some of the lists are so long under each game console that it could very well be a few hundred on each, and totalling a few thousand. There are easily around 1,000+ games I would say, and it could very well have 4,371. Regardless…there is HUGE amount of content. So if you like retro games from the 90’s especially…there will be a LOT for you to like.
Now the only downside there is many of the titles in some sections are Japanese games but it tells you whether each game is either (Japanese) or (USA) next to each title. and many of them have a photo from the gameplay, or a picture of the cover, or oftentimes both. So you can remember what it was, or it if was familiar to you pretty easily. I would say perhaps 50-70% of the games are Japanese that I am not that familiar with, besides maybe a few of those titles. But that still leaves hundreds to possibly 1,000 or so American games too. Some of my favorites being Grand Theft Auto 2 Playstation version and Grand Theft Auto Vice City. Just those two titles alone…would practially be worth the cost imo as they have so much gameplay each. But there are so many such as Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Gran Turismo etc. etc.
Another minor negative is this heavily features the game systems of the 90’s, so if you wanted original Nintendo games there weren’t too many of those that I recognized. Ninja Guiden and a few others. So it does not have an exhaustive list of original Nintendo games, which were from around 1985 or 1986, but instead has exhaustive lists from the platforms right after that such as Sega Genesis, Playstation, and the games in those years from around 88-98…it has SO MANY of those games…as well as from multiple other platforms and handheld platforms of that era. So as I grew up with a Nintendo and did not have a Playstation or Sega…maybe thats why I didn’t recognize some of these games. But some Nintendo games were ported to those systems so there were definiltey some Nintendo games I recognized, and it even had a few N64 games which I also had. and I played lots of Playstation + Sega at friends houses so it was still a lot of nostaligia for me as well as with the Arcade section. As it also has a very, very…..expansive Arcade section. Meaning almost any arcade game that you could find in an arcade from say the mid 80s – late 90s…fair chance its on here. (such as a favorite of mine T2 Terminator ) Pretty awesome.
Its also pretty light and easy to use, and the battery seems solid as I played for 30-45 mins or so and it only went down by 9% right out of the box. So at that rate it would definitely match or exceed the stated 5 hours. It also comes with a USB charging wire and internal USB battery. Meaning it won’t eat up batteries like Gameboys of old. You just charge it with USB as you would your cellphone (and you can bring a battery pack/charger if on the go as well.)
One other note is this does not really feel exactly like a Gameboy even though it sortof looks like one. It has way more buttons and controls than a gameboy, as it is emulating many Playstation and Sega Gensis games..which have different controllers and many more buttons..than the Gameboy that just had like 2 or 4 buttons. So its like using a Playstation or Sega controller…in a handheld way. (so theres like 14 buttons total…including 4 on the back….to accomodate all the various gameplay and systems. Pretty great.)
and if that wasn’t enough…it also has Wifi so you can download more games. It has an open TF card slot where you can further add more games and even movies + TV shows as it says it has a supported video player. (I have not tried this yet but will be doing so – will update if I encounter any problems.) You can also read books via an e-book reader and there is a file manager as well. (to organize and access your content.) So there are two total TF slots, one on the left, with the pre-installed games on a TF card already inside it, and on the right side is an open TF slot to do whatever you want with. Excellent.
It also has a headphone jack, and bluetooth for various audio choices, and the speakers are decent as well. (I couldnt hear some of the low sounding background music in some of the games well, but I could hear all the game action, but I also had it resting on a pillow, thus muffling it a bit as the sound comes out the bottom, and I had lowered the volume as well.) Regardless, I will likely be playing this with headphones as I will be able to hear everything perfectly, and won’t want to disturb other people anyway.
Bottomline: If you liked video games in the 80s+90s…you will definitely find some games that you liked and played, if not possibly hundreds…especially from the early – mid 90s. With games I played stretching from like 88-98. And as this is very versatile with wifi, bluetooth, and video player + even more fuctions…it will definitely be useful in lots of ways. Super happy with it and I would definitley recommend it for those who want some 80s+90s nostaligia….and a useful media player.

Suprising build quality and performance…. (ArkOS Compatible!)
*** AMAZING UPDATE ***
Since the internals of this unit were seemingly so similar to an R36S, which runs the superior AeUX ArkOS, I just took a chance and burned a copy of that OS (Using the V1 screen) and to my suprise, it boots! My original review (see below) was 4 out of 5 stars. I’ve just upgraded this to 5 out of 5 stars! You get all the amazing performance of an R36S, but with the solid build and controls of an Anbernice device! This device is worth the $49.00 asking price IMO.
*** ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW ***
Honeslty, I wasn’t not expecting much from this one. Never heard of it. In fact, I checked youtube and found that there’s exactly 1 review of this device and (as of this review) it is only 4 days old.
The title of that youtube says “Feels just like an Anbernic”. The youtuber is correct, it feels EXACTLY like an Anbernic.
That means it’s quality. You feel it right away. It’s sold and the plastics feel great. There’s no button rattle. The controls are tight and on point!
The internal specs seem to match the R36S point to point. As such, there’s no suprise that I found the performance matching as well. Basically, that means up to PS1 without much issue and you can so some PSP, N64 and DC…very limited on those.
My only disappointment is the Batocera OS. Although alot of these front ends use Batocera as it’s core, I wish it was using ArkOS. I find that with the same hardware, that emulation performance with ArkOS is slightly better, but if you’ve not used an R36S with ArkOS, then I don’t think you’d notice.
It’s priced within it’s spec as well. $49.00 is a good price. $39.00 would be an excellent price and anything below that would be a steal. I, personally, could justify the slightly higher price than the R36S for only one reason. BUILD QUALITY, not that an authentic R36S is bad, but you can feel it. There’s a weight to it. A solid feeling that the R36S doesn’t quite capture.
Another minor gripe would be the small amount of light bleed on my unit. I get a little bit in the lower left corner, but you can only see it on solid black screens, so usually can only tell during boot/loading screens and only in dark or dimly light rooms.
Over all, besides being super suprised on this one, I do recommend it!
