works great with an iphone and conference call with a small group and remote people
OK. So for too long we have used an iphone in the middle of the table for conference calls, small group with a couple remote people. I have kept thinking we should get a speaker phone, but all of us being busy and no one making time to look into it, well…
What we had sort of worked, and a previous conference call speaker from a few years ago I had, had not impressed me, so that impeded me from thinking positive about trying another one.
Anyhow, I finally decided to look into it, spend an hr reading reviews. Going in to it thinking I should be able to get something for $50 or so. But reading reviews and I kept coming back to this one or another brand with an older model.
Not that the cost was a big deal, but I don’t like spending company money on useless gadgets, I do that well enough when I’m not at the office. I have also had a good experience with other Anker products.
TLDR
Anyway, we gave this speaker a test earlier this week and I must say it worked great. Battery charged, connected with bluetooth to iphone and started the call. Remote people could hear us great, and we could hear them great without turning up the speaker all the way… Used it for about 2hrs, battery claims it can run all day, and it just might.
So if you have a similar situation like I did until now, this conference call speaker is likely worth the money!

Perfect for conference calls
When I first read the reviews on this product, I was a bit skeptical since so many of the reviews were so positive. Now I understand why. After using this for two days, I am absolutely in love with it. I am using it with a 2020 MacBook Air for zoom calls, an iPhone XI, and tried it on a Mac mini as well. The mic performance is excellent – I have tested it in a number of rooms, one with a 16′ ceiling, and at various distances. The mic quality degrades slightly at distances beyond 6 feet, but that is a minor point. As long as I am in the vicinity of the device, the clarity is excellent and folks can’t tell the difference. The output is very nicely tuned for the human voice, making it much easier to hear the call when different people are speaking or there are heavy accents. The ease of use is excellent – it connects faster than other bluetooth devices I use – and the construction is nice. A good weight to it, silicone pad so it won’t slip, the enclose is nice to hold, and the buttons function fine. For the price point, this is really impressive.
By way of comparison to the MBAir, the mic pickup on the Anker is far superior. I find that the MBA has trouble when I’m not centered within two feet of the device or there is background noise. The Anker really “releases” me from having to be exactly in front of the MBA at all times. Also, while the MBA audio is far superior, it is not as good as the Anker for human voices. Voices on the Anker are much easier to hear and follow – I can sense it takes less concentration on my part (and my brain!).
I’ve used a vast range of bluetooth devices for various audio applications, and as a conference device this is by far the best I have tried (Bose, Jabra,, and a host of music listening devices). Even compared to a VoIP Polycom Soundstation (the gold standard in my world), this is a worthy competitor. The key differences for the Anker are the mic quality, battery life, and the way the audio is tuned to human voices.
Now let’s see how it holds up over time ;-).

Great audio, nice build quality, which it had app support
I got this to replace a Poly speakerphone that had died – the second one in less than 2 years. I am on the phone all day for work so good sound quality and consistent connectivity and performance is key. This works great – my coworkers all say that sound quality is good, with decent blocking of background noise. I took a call while my lawn service was right outside my office window with a leaf blower and the folks on the other end could make my voice out clearly with no background noise.
Build quality is a pleasant surprise – this has a metal casing, with a rubber foot that keeps it from sliding around on my desk. I would very happily travel with this if need be.
I haven’t tried this as an external battery beyond a quick test and I have power banks I prefer, but it’s nice to have the option.
My only issue is the lack of app control – having an Anker PowerConf 300 camera which offers significant customization through the AnkerWork app I was hoping this would have some more customizability – perhaps EQ, sound profiles, adjustment of noise cancellation, etc. – but it’s a pretty plug and play affair on Windows at least.

Good with one exception, and great company.
UPDATE – The company reached out to me after this was posted and even though the time to return had elapsed they credited me a refund, which I thought was very nice. As long as you don’t need to connect via USB and Bluetooth at the same time, or don’t need to connect to multiple Bluetooth devices at the same time, then this is a high quality speakerphone. So for that reason I changed my rating from 3 to 4 stars. Clearly I can be bought 🙂 But seriously, it is really nice, with the exception of what I mention below, so if that doesn’t bother you then this is highly recommended.
Good ergonomics, good sound quality, people say they can hear me well, easy to use, it works all day, and it has a massive batter that you can charge your smart phone with, and it charges with a USB-C cable, all of which are good, good things.
Two things though:
1 – It can only connect to one Bluetooth source at a time, so choose between connecting via Bluetooth to laptop or via Bluetooth to your smart phone road warriors or home office workers, but not both at the same time.
2 – When it’s connected via USB to a laptop, it can not be used via Bluetooth from a smart phone. When you unplug the USB cable to connect via a smart phone, you can not use this for voice on your laptop from MS Teams, Zoom, etc.
All in all I thought I found a viable alternative to the original hockey puck for my home office and when I travel, but maybe not. Sadly at this price I’ll use it until it dies, though, and I missed the return window.
