Great Replacement Motherboard â Worked Perfectly Out of the Box
I recently had to replace my old motherboard, and after some research, I decided on the ASUS Prime B550-PLUS as a solid mid-range option. I paired it with my Ryzen 7 3700x, and Iâm happy to report that it worked flawlessly right out of the box.
Easy Setup: The installation process was smooth, and the board had no compatibility issues with my existing components. It booted up without any problems with my Ryzen 7 3700x, which was a relief after dealing with the failure of my old motherboard.
Great Features for the Price: The B550 chipset provides great value, offering support for PCIe 4.0. The board also has plenty of connectivity options, including USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, which I find useful for my external devices.
Solid Build Quality: ASUS has always been known for making durable motherboards, and the Prime B550-PLUS feels sturdy and reliable.
BIOS Interface: The BIOS is user-friendly and easy to navigate. I didnât have any issues tweaking settings or adjusting fan curves or enabling D.O.C.P, which is a plus for those who like to fine-tune their system.
If you’re looking to future-proof your build, I would recommend considering an AM5 motherboard for better long-term compatibility with upcoming Ryzen processors. The only reason I went with an AM4 motherboard is because I wanted to hand down my gaming rig to my little brother, and this was a cost-effective solution for my current needs.
The ASUS Prime B550-PLUS is an excellent choice for anyone sticking with AM4, offering great value and features at a reasonable price. However, for those planning future upgrades, AM5 might be a better option to consider.

Great motherboard for a gaming build
Used this for a gaming PC build I put together for a friend, and it worked perfectly. No issues during setup, and it runs smoothly. Solid choice for a reliable and budget-friendly motherboard

Decent, but not perfect
Overall this is a very good motherboard for the price, but it does have a few deficiencies. If you are using a budget board like this, you’re probably not using premium ASUS RGB so the fact that it only has one 3-pin header at the bottom of the board is pretty lame. There are 2 4-pin RGB ports if you decide to buy compatible fans or a compatible controller. The WIFI and Bluetooth drivers are a mess and I had to spend a lot of time getting them to work. The latest drivers on the support website don’t work and you have to go back to older WHQL drivers for both but even then the Bluetooth is sketchy. There are newer drivers that work but they aren’t on the ASUS website for this board. I can’t complain too much because B550 is outdated but still, it was a pain.

A Great Replacement Board
I updated my son’s Cyberpower PC to Windows 11. Everything installed successfully, including all the updates. Then after a restart the display wouldn’t come on. That Mobo was an MSI B450 Tomahawk and the LED’s said VGA problem. Given the circumstance I couldn’t believe it suddenly died. I tried numerous times resetting the CMOS, reseating the graphics card, reseating memory, even checked the power supply, etc.
I ordered this ASUS Prime B450M-A II as an economic replacement. It arrived in 2 days and was packaged well. The price dropped 2 days after I ordered. The box has labels Windows 11 ready and Ryzen 5000 Series ready. The board comes with backplate, 2 SATA cables, a M2 screw for mounting, a driver disc and the manual. This ASUS mobo is laid out differently than the MSI. I like it better. The graphics card slot is moved over one space with the M2 slot out in the open. With this Mobo you can use a M2 with a heatsink attached. The MSI M2 slot was directly under a dual-slot graphics card. I like the BIOS flashback feature (located on the back) with this board. The BIOS is laid out well, very intuitive and easy to use.
I have built several computers over the years with ASUS my go-to brand. This Mobo is a great full featured B450 motherboard for AM4 series CPU’s. The BIOS is upgraded to accept Ryzen 5000 series CPU’s. Simply put you’re getting a great AM4 motherboard for a great price.

Great value for a Ryzem MB
Great for a budget build, paired it with a Ryzen 5 5600GT, 16 GB Corsair Vengence DDR 4 3200, Crucial P3 Plus 1TB PCIe 4.0 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, Corsair 650 W power supply, and an old case I had sitting around that had a DVD burner in it, total cost under very low. Not as fast as my Ryzen 7 7700X machine but plenty fast for everyone except an avid gamer.
First thing I ran into was the back plate that covers the USB and other ports was wrong, so couldn’t use the USB flash port (already had the board installed when I noticed this, didn’t feel like taking it out again so had to update the bios using Windows 10, Windows 11 didn’t recognize the CPU, their flash utility didn’t work so loaded Windows 10 first, used it to update the BIOS in Windows, then upgraded to Windows 11. Maybe not the best way to do it but it worked for me (having a Microsoft account was able to install Windows 10 then upgrading to Windows 11 with no problem.)
With the stock wraith cooler temp sits at 40 degrees Celsius, well within specs.
I’ve built several computers using AMD processors and Asus motherboards, never had a problem with either one. After you update the BIOS use the Armoury Crate software from AMD to update all the drivers including the wireless drivers and all will go smooth.
Really the only con is needing to update the BIOS but don’t really consider it a con.

Vino bien empaquetado.

I recently tested out the ASUS Prime B550-PLUS Motherboard, and here’s a breakdown of its features to save you scrolling through a book of details and my experience using it:
The Good Stuff
⢠Dropped this board into my PC build and it booted like a champ with my Ryzen processor
⢠PCIe 4.0 slots meant my graphics card ran smooth as butter
⢠HDMI 2.1 connection handled 4K displays without breaking a sweat
⢠RGB header let me add some fancy light show to my build
⢠1Gb LAN connection stayed stable during intense gaming sessions
Opportunities
⢠Installation needs some tech know-how – not a beginner’s board
⢠Might be overkill if you’re not running a performance-focused system
⢠RGB sync can be finicky with different component brands
⢠Price point is higher than basic motherboards
⢠BIOS updates require a bit of patience and tech skills
Bottom Line: High-end AMD board for serious PC builders who want performance and style.
