    Good performance, good value
If you want to play modern titles at 4K/60 in ultra, the 7800XT is the currently the best mix of performance and value available.
That being said, 2024 has been a pretty bad year for GPUs, and the 7800XT is not really an exception to this. I paid $440 for my card and comparisons are relative to that. Written Jan 2025, and prices referenced are the lowest I could find at time of writing.
** Compared to current generation cards:
    – 15% faster than the 4070 (~$450).
    – 10% slower than the 4070 SUPER (~$550).
    – More VRAM than both the 4070/4070 SUPER (12GB vs. 16GB. Some modern titles use more than 12GB of VRAM at 4K ultra, and in this case the NVIDIA cards will be bottlenecked.
    – Under load, ~25% more efficient than the 4070 SUPER and ~20% more efficient than the 4070. Pulls half the power (15w vs. 30w) when idle and computer is not asleep.
** Compared to last generation cards:
    – Similar performance to last generation’s 6900 XT (~$400). ~10% lower power draw under load, similar power draw at idle. No longer being manufactured so availability is bad.
    – 5% better performance than the 3080, ~15% lower power draw under load. Pulls half the power at idle.
    ** Miscellaneous:
    – Temps hit 80C under sustained load on the bench with no overclocking.
    – Fits nicely into my SSF case.
    – Performance/eco hardware switch is a nice feature that adds a bit of value.
    – FSR (AMD’s upscaling technology) looks a little worse than DLSS (NVIDIA’s upscaling technology) IMO, but I think this is probably preference.
    ** Final thoughts:
    Overall, it’s a fine card.
If you are OK with downgrading, Intel’s B580 ($250) is currently the value king and is capable of playing most titles at high in 1440p. If you are set on gaming in ultra at 4K/60, then the 7800XT is probably the way to go.
The current generation of cards are not great (the fact NVIDIA has released the 4070, a 4070 SUPER, a 4070 TI, and a 4070 TI SUPER instead of adding a new SKU should be some indication of this), so being the best of the generation isn’t exactly the highest praise. New cards are likely going to start hitting the market in early Q2 2025, so hold out for a few months if you can.
But if you need a new GPU and can’t wait… well, then you take what you can get.
5 stars only because it’s the best compared to it’s competition, and not because it’s a card that will be remembered fondly in 10 years time.

Outstanding and Powerful GPU (Windows and Linux)!
Being an nVidia fan for a very long time….my latest system build called for new considerations. Adding the Samsung Neo G9 57″ meant I wanted a GPU that could drive Display Port at 240Hz refresh rate. The RX 7900 XT OC 20G not only does that but is also over clocked and boasts 20GB of GDDR6 video ram. I am primarily a linux and this GPU is fully supported (@ 240Hz refresh rate) with kernel 6.8 and above. Radeon is supported at the kernel level due to AMD’s support in linux! In windows, after a metric ton of driver installs and driver updates, etc, etc, it just works as it should! This GPU is excellent. It runs cool and drives anything I need without even breaking a sweat! It looks great in my new chassis and gets along well with my Asus ROG Strix B650E-F motherboard w/Ryzen 7950X CPU, ASUS ROG Strix LC II 360 ARGB All-in-one AIO Liquid CPU Cooler, 64 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM, and finally the dual SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 drives. Everything just works flawlessly! NOTE: this GPU is massive so measure your case and allow for it! I also bought a support for the far end as can be seen in the photo.
I spent a LOT of time researching for this build and do not make decisions lightly. I cannot say enough about how happy I am with this purchase. Once again, ASUS delivers!! You cannot go wrong with this GPU.
Oh frame rates? I’ve only so far played Call of Duty – Modern Warfare III on windows and with basic non-overclocked, non-optimized settings, I was getting around 90 fps at 240Hz refresh rate at 7680×2160 resolution. On Linux I played a little Nexuiz, Alien Arena, and OpenArena and in all cases without optimizing any settings on the GPU but setting the games to maximum everything, hit well above 100 fps.
Perhaps it’s my setup combination OR just this GPU is steller. Either way….it rocks!!!

Excellent in my micro form factor
Runs exceptionally with my system, I play a few different types of games with this gpu .
I’m playing everything from Forza horizon 5 to Destiny 2 and everything between.
The graphics are amazing, runs ice cold, I got this gpu to use instead of the graphics aspect of my 5700g’s graphics aspect , and haven’t had any complaints, I also use it to create artwork amongst other things.
    It’s really been a beast !
My spec levels are ( in simple terms)
    A520 motherboard,
    R7 5700 g
    Corsair 32gb ram
    550 w power
And the 6600 in a micro case ,
The performance at 1080 is flawless,
    Noise level doesn’t exist,
No stuttering, no chop, no issues !
On a beer budget, I got champagne!

Must buy for new builders or simply upgrading
Absolutely great mid range card. If you’re looking for a good gpu for a first build or even just an upgrade this card is very ideal. It’s very low noise and its size is not as big as you would think either. Most games I play at ultra or high settings and consistently hit over a hundred plus fps. I tested this card with black myth wukong and call of duty black ops 6 at high an ultra settings a get anywhere from 90-160fps. I’ve read reviews that some have experienced coil wine a crashes but I’ve had yet to experience this, the card for me has been very stable. Overall if your searching for a solid gpu the price to performance is hard to beat.

    -Fallout 76
    -Doom Eternal
    -Battlefield 2042
    -Forza 5
    -Need 4 Speed Heat
    -The Finals
    -Warzone, MWII

Replaced my NVIDIA ASUS ROG 3090Ti Hybrid GPU with this one. So much LESS HEAT, less noise and less power draw! It’s a big card though. Performance wise in games, video editing, streaming, and much more, very good with graphics that are bright, sharp and great looking. Both GPU cards excelled on the performance front, but this card wins for me with a better produced image, being inaudible to very low noise under load, less power draw and so much LESS HEAT! Can’t state that enough.
Solid card and like the support stand-off. Leans into the ASUS TUF theme.
One of the best GPU cards available today from AMD. Could not be happier.
