Favorite tool ever!
This truly is my favorite tool! I don’t feel comfortable using a big chain saw but I absolutely love this because I know I can use it safely. We recently had a 70 foot tree come down in a storm and except for the trunk and large limbs, I used this for everything else for hours. I love this!!

Got trees? Get these! (Also, get an oilcan.)
Truth be told, I’d never heard of gator loppers until I stumbled across these while looking for a replacement 40v battery charger & spare battery for my B&D chainsaw.[Skip this next graf if you’re in a hurry….Backstory: I first tried a B&D cordless drill 15 years ago; then bought a B&D cordless string trimmer on a whim maybe 8 or 9? years ago. (That thing is so awesome … still going and still chomping thru some pretty heavy going like poke, ragweed, etc. along my fencelines … I love that wee beastie!). After that came the B&D circular saw, the 12″ chainsaw, and a happy hoard of batteries. So while I could try other purported “heavier-duty” makes like DeWalt or Stihl, I’m not convinced I need to, especially for the B&D prices … And of course, there’s my stable of B&D batteries!]Okay, back to the loppers. In short, they are the **business!!!** I was worried at first because I’m a legit female senior citizen and they seemed heavy on first grasp, but once I got to using them to cut up limbs after a storm, I never gave it a second thought. I can’t get over the capacity … The 4″ cut claim is true, though pretty slow going, with a tendency to bite/bind on big green stuff … Not sure I’d push my luck there too much, and standard chainsaw common sense applies. But the jaws and double handle cutoffs feel miles safer than the chainsaw, and for working overhead they are vastly superior. Now I carry them in the tractor bucket while mowing and cheerfully lop off those old headwhacker/ROPS-grabber limbs with abandon, and I’m starting in on some annoying fenceline growth. Honestly, I don’t know how I got along without them!As other reviews have mentioned, they go through the bar & chain oil, and the refill bottle is merely decorative, so get an oil can or syringe to refill the reservoir. Also, the “scrench” is flimsy, so get out your socket set for chain adjustments … But in my experience so far for lopping, pruning, and cutting up to 3 1/2″ limbs in relative (to a chainsaw) safety, these gator loppers are the best things since sliced bread. Love them!!!

An Excellent Yard Debris tool – Very Safe
If you often have branches up to 3-5 inches in diameter or less that need cutting, this is the tool for you. I am on my second one at this time, the first one lasted many years. With its design, it is safe for my wife to use altho I love using it. Its great for breaking yard debris down to proper length for the waste management folks to pick up. I highly recommend this saw.

Works almost as well as my AC powered Alligator saw
While we’ve only had this a few days, my wife has probably put at least 10 hours of actual use on it. I also have the AC powered version of this saw, which I’ve had since 2007, and after all these years of use, I’d give it 5 stars. We the battery version to use around our property in areas not easily reached with an extension cord. The battery version works nearly as well as the AC version and perhaps better than I thought it would, even cutting through several branches of at least 5″ in diameter. . . but with a couple of exceptions:The battery life of the provided1.5AH battery is short so if you have a large job, get a second battery and if you can stand the added weight, get a much more powerful one. The day after we started using this we bought a 2 pack of 3.0Ah 20v Batteries – so a little more power without a noticeable weight difference. The other issue with the battery version is that after some hard/long use the thermal switch in the batteries will cut them off until they cool down. So, best to have a second battery on hand to allow the first one to cool down. The other issue again with the batteries is the the charger provided will take a 1.5AH battery around 4 to 5 hours to recharge. We’ve already bought a fast charger that works well with both the B&D battery and our 2 aftermarket batteries, cutting the recharge time for each to under an hour.An issue with the saw itself is that the instructions state that after some first use, loosen the two chain bar bolts to allow the tensioner to take out any slack that may have developed in the new chain. Easy right? Well both the bolts were tightened at the factory to what I believe was near 100 ft-lbs. The tool provided with the saw for this could not budge them, a socket on a racket wrench would budge them. I had to use a breaker bar with a fair amount of torque to loosen the bolts. The last issue is the bottle provided for oiling the chain. It leaks all over when used and is messy. I recommend having a rag wrapped around it when using. Also the oil bottle comes empty so buy some bar and chain lube when you order the saw.

Makes short work out of smaller cutting and pruning jobs, battery life is limited for larger jobs
I’ve owned the corded version of this tool for a decade. So it was an easy decision to pick up this cordless version for my property which has a lot of land too far from an outlet to safely run an extension cord. As a bonus, closer to my house and barn, no more dragging a contractor’s cord around! Just like it’s older brother, it cuts fast and is easy to use. Brush, limbs, etc. if it fits in the jaws, it cuts. Just be aware that this is an electric chain saw at heart, and use common sense and safety precautions. The only real drawback is the battery life and charging time. While it’s great for small jobs, those of us who need a longer run time for large jobs are going to need a larger battery and a spare. The battery that ships with it is just not up to long cutting jobs, and takes a while to recharge. If you’re like me and need this for bigger jobs, I’d recommend ordering a spare battery while you’re ordering this.Still highly recommended over a full chain saw for cutting the lighter stuff, much less risk and hassle!

Lo estuve ocupando como 2 horas continuas cortando ramas de 3 pulgadas y no se descargo, excelente

Used the B&D alligator chainsaw this week to clear some bushes and it worked great. It’s safer than a bare chainsaw as the cutting teeth are not exposed. The clamping action also holds the branches in place for cutting. The oiling port doesn’t work that well so I oiled the chain every 30-40 minutes. There is a similiar offering of this product but it doesn’t include the charger and battery so be sure you confirm this in the description. There is 1.5 amp battery included with this offer but it only lasts about 30 minutes of intermittent work. I bought two additional batteries (3 amp each) to provide a longer use period.

I own a whole collection of Black and Decker 20 volt Max tools, and a pile of batteries for them, so adding this tool was a no-brainer. I use it mostly to chop up limbs and branches so I can put them in paper “yard” bags for disposal, and it works great. I could use my 10″ bar chainsaw, but I find this easier to handle and safer to use, as you have to press a button on both handles at the same time for it to activate. It doesn’t have a self-oiler — you have to squirt the chainsaw oil into a receptacle, but it’s not a big deal. It’s also OK for limbing trees, but I prefer my 8″ bar Max pole saw for that, as it has a longer reach, and handles larger limbs as it has a longer bar.

Okay so it’s quite a bit bigger than I expected but shouldn’t have been surprised had I looked more closely at photos. I bought it on a whim as I had a million branches down throughout the winter and yard cleanup was looking daunting. This made REALLY quick work of chopping up the larger branches and I ended up lopping off some lower limbs that were still on the tree — these were about 2 – 2.5″ in diameter and this went through them without issue. No oil included for the blade so just make sure you have some on hand.
