Compact and with good torque
As easy to use as an electric toothbrush. The hardest part of this review was trying to figure out how to splice together a video since I can’t post more than one clip on a review. Before using it I fully charged the included battery and added chain oil. As you’ll see in the video, I had an issue with the oil leaking – but I still suspect this is either user error or just bad luck. While this 12″ model appears to be a new version, CAT has 16″ and 18″ versions on their website. A day after using it I went to take my motorcycle on an errand and saw the chainsaw had again leaked chain oil, this time on my garage floor right in front of my bike. That was fun to clean up…I was almost spot on with my guess about the LED indicator, turns out it is for an overload condition, not overheat. My electric toothbrush has the same when I press against my teeth too hard. The indicator means you should back off your muscle pressure and give the saw time to do it’s work. Though the RPMs sound slow, as an electric this saw has plenty of torque. It’s impressive, though not as much as my full size gas chainsaw. It’s light enough I was able to trim up the huge branch I’d cut off with one hand, though I’m sure every manufacturer would warn not to do that as a safety concern. As you’ll see, the work barely affected the battery. I bet I could have taken the whole tree down and apart twice without running out of juice.

Excellent chainsaw for average suburban homeowner.
For the average suburban home-owner this is almost the perfect chainsaw. It’s a great tool for sectioning-up that medium-sized tree branch that came down during the last storm, slicing off the extra few inches from that 1 landscape timber, cutting down that tree that took root a few years back on the edge of the property that finally got big enough that you’re going to do something about it. Have an old hedge you want to get rid of? This will do it.The battery came with no charge, but in about 60 minutes it was good to go. I loaded the saw with some bar & chain oil, popped the battery on and went nuts on a few things in the yard that needed attention. This chainsaw handled the jobs with ease. It wasn’t nearly as loud as my old gas chainsaw, it wasn’t heavy at all, and it felt very safe to use.If somebody wants to compare this saw to a serious lumberjack tool, they shouldn’t That’s not what this saw is. But it’s no toy either. It’s great for a property owner that occasionally has some medium-level cutting to do.The only improvement that I could suggest would be to provide a decent plastic storage case for it. I’d happily pay an extra $20 bucks for a case to store it in the garage in.

Good butâ¦
I had a bit of trouble getting it to work at first. The first one i got was broke idk how but it was. The second one i got i about gave up on when i finally figured out that i needed to pull the guard all of the way back until it snapped into place and then it would work. After i got it to work and had it oiled it worked just fine. I really like it so far and it cuts pretty well for my first chainsaw. It obviously is no large chainsaw but is meant for smaller trees or branches and does itâs job really well. Overall the battery last and the charge holds good and the cutting is also good so it gets 4 stars from me.

Not usable…
Box arrived in perfect shape. Unpacked unit with no visual defects. Battery had 2 bars charge. Plugged in charger and battery. Added bar oil to reservoir. Took about 25 mins for full charge from 2 bars. Connected battery to saw and poof went the motor. Went to disconnect battery and it was melted to the saw. About a minute later, the saw caught fire with no personal interaction. Talk about a “Hot” item…

Works great!
Hubby finally had a chance to use this chainsaw. He loves it! He used it to trim our mimosa tree (hard cut) and then used it to cut branches and wood for our fire pit. He worked as a tree guy for years and has a lot of experience using chainsaws because of it. He said this is one of the better ones he’s used and highly recommends it for little jobs around the house. The battery has lasted quite a while. Even after using it almost all day, it’s still charged. It’s lightweight, so I could use it too if I so desire. Very pleased!

Great For Small Jobs
We got this for our small jobs around the yard. It definitely fits the bill and gets the job done, albeit there are some things that could use improvement.First off, from a user friendliness and safety standpoint, itâs top-notch. Itâs light and because itâs electric fires up to full speed instantaneously, and is very quiet compared to gasoline powered chainsaws. Two great safety features that are built in: the hand protection plate that also acts as a safety switch. You have to have it engaged before the unit will turn on. It disengages with a quick bump forward. There is also a red safety button that Hass to be depressed before pulling the trigger, so there are essentially two safety mechanisms before you could even turn the unit on. I think this is great. While it doesnât work great as a hedge trimmer, it does really nice with small branches and logs. Two features that Iâm not crazy about: first, the chain tensioner is very finicky. Itâs very difficult to get the right tension on the chain. You can go from over tight to ridiculously slack with a quarter turn, but then it can be very difficult to go in the other direction. Also, as youâll see in one of my pictures, the plastic housing broke on the first use. That was exceptionally disappointing. I had hoped the unit would be a little tougher. I hope thatâs the last crack, I experience, and I will update the review if it gets worse.Be aware that you will need to get some chain oil before using the chainsaw. It is not included in the kit. The instructions included are very clear, with the exception of the aforementioned chain tensioner. Iâm still confused as to how to fine-tune that one right.Overlooking the foibles, overall Iâm happy with the chainsaw. It is what it is, working great for small jobs.
