Description
The Champion Power Equipment 201285 1200-Watt Portable Generator with CO Shield is designed with your safety and convenience in mind. At 1500 starting watts and 1200 running watts, this rugged generator provides just what you need for RV use, camping, tailgating, boating, hunting, weekend trips, and small jobs around the house. During an outage, the 79cc Champion single-cylinder engine will provide the power you need for a few essential items in an emergency – lights, microwave, fan, TV, modem/router, cell phone charger, etc. Note: this unit is not recommended for emergency home backup for powering air conditioners, stoves, furnaces or sump pumps. CO Shield technology monitors the accumulation of carbon monoxide (CO), a poisonous gas produced by engine exhaust when the generator is running. If CO Shield detects unsafe elevated levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine. CO Shield is not a substitute for an indoor carbon monoxide alarm or for safe operation. DO NOT allow engine exhaust fumes to enter a confined area through windows, doors, vents or other openings. Generators must ALWAYS be used outdoors, far away from occupied buildings with engine exhaust pointed away from people and buildings. Meets the requirements of ANSI/PGMA G300-2018.
Design for Safety: Includes a 120V 20A covered household duplex outlet, a low oil shut-off switch and holds 0.4-quarts of oil (recommended 10W-30)

Updated-Dead On Arrival! Won’t start!
Bought this generator to charge my RV battery to make selling it easier. It never started or even sputtered once! Called tech help. They walked me through the exact same steps I had been doing for 2 hours. I found additional troubleshooting steps, even those didn’t work. It wouldn’t attempt to start even with starter fluid. I can tear a generator down and rebuild it, so I’m no dummy. Some safety (not the low oil safety) is keeping it from starting, right out of the box. Not happy!
Update: As usual, Amazon to the rescue! I love this place! The replacement is on the way. To be fair, even though the manufacturers support couldn’t help me fix it, it is a small generator and would be too costly for me to return, or for them to try to have someone fix it. They did try. Back happy again. ð

Small but incredible
I used to own one of these. I bought after we lost everything in our refrigerator & freezer during a 5 day power outage. The next power outage I was able to run the refrigerator. I had to unplug the refrigerator to run the freezer because we had a light, Wi-Fi and TV running also. But it did not miss a beat. I used it off and on sparingly after that, but it always started. it was snowing and the lights were flickering during a snow storm it hit me that I hadn’t started it in almost 5 years. I ran out to garage grabbed it and took out back. It started on the third pull. with 7-year-old gas in it. I gave it away when Champion came out with Dual fuel technology. I now own two 2500 DF inverters and a 4k Champion DF inverter. you can’t go wrong with Champion Power equipment

Magnetic oil dipstick ODD SIZE
Have bought 4 different sizes-not M18X2.5, which is a common size…Called Tech Support 3 times, they have no size details to offer. PLEASE!!! If anyone has info on size or vendor source, LET ME KNOW, please.
M18, M20 too small…M27 way too big. I hate mechanical mysteries, and this is surely one.

Buy nothing from Champion with the CO Shield
I’ve been running a Champion generator for several years now and have been very impressed. I recently upgraded to a bit more powerful generator – I didn’t consider anything else but a Champion. Worst mistake ever!! Do not buy anything from Champion with the CO Shield. The heightened sensitivity of the sensor coupled with poor placement render the generator pretty much unusable due to the frequent shutdowns initiated as a result of the sensor registering too much CO. I live in an area prone to light and variable wind. One little gust from the wrong direction and this thing is dead. Reposition per the instructions, restarts just fine, shutdown with a swirl of wind from a different direction. The generator is square/rectangular…it creates eddies even from a constant wind direction so no matter what direction you point it…you guessed it, shutdown. 100% USELESS product!!!
