Impressed
Overall it’s a nice blade sharpener. Very little effort required to guide blades pass the wheel. Would recommend manufacture to equip the unit with a simple spark defector. Glade I bought the 1/2 hp. 1/3 would probably work, but would likely bog down and take longer to sharpen larger blades. Using this grinder about two to three times a week.

Excellent tool. Very sturdy and easy to use.
Setup takes a little time because a couple of the holes on the model 023 are difficult to get to. The instructions donât say to use these holes but they give you the bolts and washers for them. Also the photo on Amazon shows a turn knob in top to adjust the height of the grinding wheel (angle of the grind) but the unit doesnât have that. It has a bolt head instead. It doesnât vibrate at all so I didnât have to fasten it down. The arm on the work light is a little short and doesnât quite allow you to easily focus the light on your work. It should be about 4 inches longer. The sharpener should last a life time. I also bought the chip collector model 88-019 88-033 which helps keep the shop bench clean. All in all I am very happy with the operation of the tool.

Good Solid Product
Easy to assemble. Set up is simple as long as you have a new blade to set the angle. If you have been using an angle grinder to sharpen it is going to take awhile to grind the blade to the right profile. It does make a noticable difference in the cut, my wife even commented. She didn’t think I needed another toy but loves it now. I thought about the 1/3 hp but went with the 1/2. The half has all the power I need to get the job done. It does take a little to get the hang of using it, don’t try hogging the blade down. One thing I did notice and is the only reason I didn’t go 5 stars is after 6 blades one setting 3 in the correct profile, the motor got hot and bogged down. Other than that, I am happy.

Not designed for Mulching Blades with flat and curved cutting edges.
This Oregon Blade Sharpener does not handle/sharpen my John Deere Mowerâs Mulching Blades properly. My bladeâs geometry includes a flat, a curved and another flat cutting surface on both ends of the blade. I also purchased the âoptionalâ Oregon 88-028 Mulching Blade Adapter for this Tool. After using the Oregon 88-023 Sharpener with Mulching Adapter installed, I believe this tool was designed for Mower Blades with âonlyâ flat cutting edges. Claiming that this tool can also sharpen Mulching blades with curved cutting edges isn’t correct. So, if you have a Mulching Mower Blade, a better tool would be a Belt Grinder design where the belt can flex and better follow the curve of the blade.I also spoke with someone that actually was in the âbizâ of sharpening mower blades and owned this same Oregon product. He confirmed what Iâd realized, that this Oregon tool is not a good solution for blades with curved Mulching cutting edges, or longer blades in general. The Good (things that impressed me):⢠The 1/2 HP Motor in this product was smooth and had almost no measurable run-out on the shaft.⢠I liked that this Tool comes with a Forward and Reverse capability with the Motor (good to have). The Problems (that concern me):Mulching Blade Sharpening issues⢠The 1â (thickness) Grinding wheel (that comes with this tool) is too wide to be of any use. A ½â width Wheel (or better yet) one with rounded edges would work better for following the curves of a Mulching Blade.⢠To sharpen Mulching Blades, Oregon suggests running the Motor in reverse (which I agree with). But it is a spark-fest-bath of particles for the User. Everything hits you about chest high, so a Full-Face shield was a must for me.General issues⢠If your Mower Blade is roughly 21″ in length, the placement of the Motor’s (front) vertical support beam blocks you from making a full lateral stroke across the blade’s edge. You are forced to grind the Blade at an angle to the Wheel if your blade is in that length parameter.⢠The (included) expansion work surface (that can be optionally mounted) has (2) bolts for attachment on the Right side (only). It has no provision for placing a bolt onto the Left side and the work surface raises up on the Left because of it. They should have designed that work surface to be held down on both sides for flatness and stability.⢠The adjustment for the Motor/Grinding Wheel height is not very precise. Also, Oregon should have retained the Metal Adjustment Wheel (as is still depicted in the current User Manual) as an included item with this tool. Because there is a single shaft for height changes, the Motor pivots side to side as you raise/lower the height. So, your setting for a particular gap between the Grinding Wheel and your work drifts back and forth with every movement of the Adjustment Shaft. Not a good design IMO.⢠Placement of Nuts and other mechanical connection parts are not well thought out. There are places that are awkward to access, and Oregon could have made it a lot easier to adjust or remove certain parts.⢠The User Manual is not well crafted, and Oregon should invest in some good âTechnical Writersâ. They need to provide âallâ of the necessary User information, clarify the descriptions, and include actual use videos for this particular Sharpener model.Bottom-line, (thanks to Amazonâs professionalism) Iâve boxed up this Tool today and will send it back tomorrow. Iâm also returning the Oregon Mulching Adapter and the Oregon Blade Balancer for refunds. In the end, I need a Tool that does what it is supposed to do and be something that Iâd proudly recommend to others. This tool fails to accomplish those needs for me.

excellent
I am a mowing contractor and more than doubled in size this year. I had previously used a regular bench grinder which worked fine but after using this oregon blade grinder, I realized how much easier it is to get a very sharp blade and not grind as much off the blade with frequent sharpening(daily). Blades should last longer, you get a much better angle on the grind, and much easier to balance. The grinder is easy to operate and easy to adjust. Only disadvantage is for blades that have longer tips it doesnt quite reach all the way to the factory grind.

Oregon blades sharpener
Over priced and over hyped a regular bench grinder will do better and we had problems with the stone within 45 days of use

Chores made easier.
Bought for someone with a lawncare business. After nearly 7 years, the business has grown and the prospect of grinding / sharpening 50 blades a week got old. This gem has made the process faster and every blade is more precisely the same the rest as inherently is the case when you introduce technology into a process.Expensive but a must have for someone with a growing business. I think it’ll pay for itself quick. It could be a better deal if you share the cost with a fellow peer in the business and you both get to use it.
