Good mic for the money with many connector options, works with RODE Wireless Pro
Pros
– Includes many options for connectors to suit virtually every imaginable audio transmitter or connection
– Directional mic helps minimize unwanted room noise
– Long wire for extended cable run if needed
– Works with RODE Wireless Pro transmitter as external mic
Cons
– Somewhat high self mic noise, ok for stage but maybe not ideal for studio quality recording
– Wire is thin and sheathing feels delicate, so need to use extra care and caution when handling cable
Overall this mic is a good value for money with the included accessories and mount. It has everything needed to mic up a violin or viola. You just need to connect it to a recorder or wireless transmitter.
I tested this mic with a RODE Wireless Pro transmitter, and it worked well and was able to draw power from the Wireless Pro transmitterâs 3.5mm port to provide the phantom power needed to power the mic. Iâve included a video recording of the mic with a comparison to what an iPhone 16 Pro Max built-in mic sounds like.
This mic provides a close-up and directional audio capture of the violin sound and less of the ambient room sound. This is great if you are trying to capture and isolate the violin in an environment where other musicians may be playing like in a band. This mic can be used to boost the violin volume without boosting the other musicians for sound reinforcement or recording purposes.
When it comes to recording solo violin, however, I would probably opt for a condenser or ribbon microphone placed further away from the violinist to capture a bit more of the room ambience and natural reverb. Using a close-up mic like this on a violin may sound too harsh if just recording a solo violin unless you add digital reverb in post editing.
Overall, this is a nice kit with carrying case and all the connector accessories needed to interface with a wide variety of wireless transmitters and brands.
