Updated Review! Original Purchase Date 8/14/2017. Still works great!
Update 1/20/2024** I’m updating this review because after 7 years this little Pulsar 1,200W generator is still reliable (I originally paid $143). So this past week we were expected to have a winter storm with temperatures in the single digits, so I got both my generators out of the shop and made sure they would start. I last started the Pulsar generator about 6 months ago. This past week I did have to clean the spark plug, but once I did that with just a few pulls of the cord it started right up! Simply amazing. As mentioned before, I only use gasoline that is free of ethanol and I always treat the gas with a fuel stabilizer AND TURN THE GAS OFF AND LET THE ENGINE RUN UNTIL THE CARBURETOR IS EMPTY for best restarting results. I really don’t use this little generator much anymore since I have upgraded to a duel fuel generator that I only run on propane, but it really is impressive how long and how well this generator has worked.Update June 9th 2018 (I give it 5 stars now), I’ve had this little gen for around 10 months now and it has never let me down, not once. I do make sure and cut the gas valve off each time I’m finished using it and let it run until the carburetor is empty (completely). I haven’t had any problem starting this generator after it has set for over a month. Just make sure and use good gas (no ethanol unless you use a stabilizer in your gas ** just avoid ethanol in all 2-stroke engines***please*** you’ll be glad you did) and always run the carburetor empty after each use. I recently (last weekend) had to use this generator to replace a broken hinge on the entrance gate to our property. It was sure nice being able to run this out of the back of my truck while it powered my electric tools. *** I received the Pulsar PG1202s 1200 watt 2-stroke generator on August 22, 2017. I bought this generator hoping that it would be an inexpensive power backup to our Renogy Solar Panels. First off, I paid $138 and change for this unit, but I took advantage of the Prime shipping and standard delivery (received about $6 off the purchase price for the delayed delivery option, which turned out not to be a delay after all!) The generator was packaged well with foam inserts within a retail box packaged in the Amazon box. Overall the quality looks to be really good. The finish is good, all instructions were well placed, written, and made sense. I added a little premium unleaded gas and 2 stroke engine oil to the tank at 50:1 ratio as recommended, switched the choke lever to choke, pulled the recoil starting rope a few times and the little generator started right up. I have ran this generator for about 6 hours now simply breaking it in. I applied a few light loads, a few heavy loads, and ran it some with no load and it performed well each time. Note; I did notice that the voltage fluctuated a lot at low rpm/load levels (my lights were dimming and getting bright). It’s not real loud-depending on where you are standing and I really didn’t notice much of a noise increase during heavy loads. Time will tell if it will last, but right now it seems like a very good product and an excellent price for backup power. Items I powered up with this generator. Drill press, large shop fan, band saw, bench grinder, angle grinder, radio, and 3 fluorescent lights. I ran all these at the same time, basically it powered my shop. However, it would not start my pancake compressor (13 amp) and I don’t think you need to run anything to sensitive with this generator unless you clean up the (power) sine wave.

Great value for the money! 10 months of ownership
Great value for the money! Very portable and a permanent addition to my roadside repair package. I came back to write this review here after the generator saved me a number of times. Works very well with 200A transformer based battery charger to charge car batteries and crank engines. Can also run power tools etc. I have had it for about 10 months. With no load I’m getting about 65 Hz and 140 Volts out of it , a little high, with load it pulls down closer to the 60 Hz 120 volt specs. Some of my more sensitive battery chargers didn’t like the high voltage and shut down.Tips:1. Put only minimal amount of gas in it. It doesn’t use very much gas so if you fill the tank all the way it may end up sitting a long time with old fuel in it2. Use only ethanol free gas.3. Remember 2-cycle oil with 30:1 ratio which is relatively rich4. It’s best to also use stabilizer, especially if the generator is kept in a relatively moist area/climate. It’s the moisture that really makes gas turn bad quickly5. Try to run it under a full load periodically, this helps keep carbon buildup off the spark plug and exhaust.6. Close the fuel valve and run it out of fuel before putting it away.

DO NOT BUY!!!! REPEAT DO NOT BUY
After a rocky start with a delayed delivery due to bad weather, I finally received my little gennie. After the usual un-boxing ceremony with my son, it was time to mix up the fuel, 30-1 mix. This you cannot be mistaken about because it is in yr face everywhere. There is also a handy measure cup attached underneath the fuel tank lid. So after reading the instructions (recommended) we fueled her up and pulled the starter recoil chord. It fired up on 3rd pull.Noise I can say is acceptable. We have some other generators in the moorings that run all night and I cannot say this is any more noisy. After letting it run for some time we connected my sons gaming computer which draws around 220W and kept this running for about 4 hours. I then plugged it to my pro-sport 20 battery charger to which is currently used for my Renogy (worst companyEVER) 200AH useless AGM battery. It handled both the charger and pc no problem.Overall, so far impressed with this little generator. Big heart in a small package!Ok, so, a lot has happened since. So yes, the gennie works hard, but on the 2nd day it started producing smoke and pushing out oil through the exhaust system and dripping onto the exhaust manifold. I asked support re this and was immediately told I would get a replacement. Nice talks and I even offered to send pics so that they could see where the oil came from to send to product development. Well!! Not so simple!! For the replacement, I then received the message that I should send this back, they would inspect this, and only then start to process a replacement! Also some notes about removing the oil etc. So now, I should sit without a generator for about 3 weeks for all this process to take place! This was totally un acceptable. After much back and forth discussion, they came up with another solution! I should destroy my unit completely, send them pictures, and then they would send a replacement. In what world does this company live?? They sell a product that is defective, offer to replace it, and then come with all these stories! It is like they are holding me responsible for the defect of their equipment, which was paid for. What are they thinking, I am trying to steal from them? Get a free unit??? The mentality is way and over beyond anything experienced before. If this is their customer support policy on the inferior products they sell, then anybody is much better off looking elsewhere. Would NEVER recommend this product or company to anybody. DO NOT waste your money!!!Update: Cheap and nasty. It gets worse, this generator has now negatively affected my main battery systems on the boat. I also tried to use this to recharge my eco-flow river pro. The readings were all over the place and the eco-flow did not like it. Had to unplug this asap. It would be suffice to say that the power produced by this generator is NOT in any way smooth or clean. Maybe for a picnic or camping with really nothing special connected to it, it may suffice, but as a real tool, it is definitely not worth the time or money! The noise it created also increased exponentionaly over the days until it is completely unbearable. It has now stopped working altogether!
