Does a great job – and then some!
I never imagined this battery-powered chain saw would be as good as it is. I thought that if it is suitable for trimming a few branches at a time I’ll be happy to use it for light duty in the yard. However, the Ryobi 40V chain saw has outperformed my wildest expectations. I cut down (and cut up) the two cedar trees pictured in just a couple of hours using only this saw. One had a 20″ trunk, the other about 12″. I had read that the battery didn’t last, but I did not have that problem. I have other Ryobi power tools, so I brought two fully charged 4 aH batteries with me. In the end, both were ready for a recharge, but I was happy with the performance and more than happy with the tool. Additionally, I have a speed charger that came with my Ryobi mower and it had the first battery fully recharged before the second battery ran low.

Excellent to get away from the hassles of gas/oil mix saws!
I’ve heated my colonial home with self-cut wood for over 40 years and have gone through multiple gas saws. This battery saw is better than any gas saws I’ve used (quiet, powerful, fast). I was skeptical about the power/speed, but after using it I’m convinced. I don’t know about battery life yet, but I’m happy with 30-45 minutes between charges (get a second battery if you cut for hours at a time).

Not as strong as gas, but…
Easy to use. Not very quiet, however. Uses quite a bit of power from the battery, doesn’t last long. Cuts well. Keep an extra battery. Not sure how much hard work it would do.

Light weight compared to a Gasoline chain saw
I haven’t had a chance to cut down any trees yet, but I charged up the battery which is the same size as my weedwhacker and mower so I don’t have to buy other chargers or batteries to run all my tools. That’s a nice bonus. The chainsaw is light in weight compared to a gas-powered chainsaw. I don’t have to worry about gasoline-smelling my car. The safety bar does stop the chain very quickly and it doesn’t take a lot of pressure to engage it. Rechargeable tools are the way to go if you don’t have any safe place to store gasoline.
I’ll be using this when I go backpacking. It’s that light and it will make cutting firewood a breeze. I don’t have to carry gasoline with me, If the battery dies on me, I can always recharge the battery with a solar cell.

Electric Chainsaw?
Yes this is a great chain saw for the casual user who doesn’t want to maintain a gas powered unit for 1 or 2 times a year use. If you already have another Ryobi 40v tool? this is a great addition to the arsenal

Powerful/Fast
First use was OK but was using new after market non OEM batteries.
Finally received the Ryobi 4AH battery that was slow in shipping and WOW! The saw doubled in speed and power. Was very impressed with the action.
Highly recommend the saw and the use of Ryobi batteries.
Thanks.

Little go getter
I am very impressed with this little saw. The first tree I went after was a 9″ dead elm, I cut up roughly a 1/4 pick-up load on one 4 ah battery. I didn’t force the cuts I just let the saw do the work.
We’ll know more in the long run.
