   A fascinating and emotionally charged story – loved it!
   Beckett, aka Scooter, first encountered Kathleen when she was with Jeff, an associated seal, and a character he never held in high regard but chose not to dwell on. It never stopped him from admiring Kathleen, but on principle, he would never pursue a woman already committed to a relationship. Over the years, he often thought of her but knew it was pointless, especially now that she has a son with Jeff. Kathleen’s reality has become a harrowing existence. Jeff has transformed into a man she despises. Trapped in a difficult situation, she is torn between her disdain for Jeff and the harsh necessity of relying on his medical insurance for the sake of their ailing son, who in his short life, has endured numerous hospitalizations, a fact she would rather not dwell on. After a chance encounter with Beckett, she finds comfort in his assistance. However, when she returns home, chaos erupts, dramatically altering her life. Desperate and destitute, she once again crosses paths with Beckett who ends up being her savior and protector. Offering her what she needs until she can stand on her own two feet. As their friendship deepens, so do their emotions, but it seems Jeff has a few tricks up his sleeve and is not ready to let go of Kathleen. Will Beckett be able to protect Kathleen and her son, or will he step away, and let them be a family again?
   This was a fascinating and emotionally charged story. The author masterfully weaved a narrative of compassion, evolving friendship, and building chemistry between two people who were drawn to one another. And as they navigate through all the challenges that life throws at them, you can’t help but hold your breath, and hope they finally get their HEA. After everything that Kathleen and Luke have been through, it’s only fair that Cupid shoots his arrow with the magical power of Love.

   Jeff kicked Kathleen and Luke out of the house. Jeff had a drinking and gambling problem and another woman on the side. Scooter has always been in love with Kathleen, so he offered her a job and a place to live, good story.

   I loved this book! Dorothy Ewels never disappoints! I was captivated again from the first sentence! Keep them coming and I will keep reading! I love Dorothy Ewels because her stories always engage all of my feelings.

   Endgame that is a sweet read
   Scooter has always had feelings for Kathleen since he first saw her at a SEAL family gathering. But she was with Gonzo and that was that. One night, he sees her in the ER with her son Luke and Gonzo isn’t there. Her insurance and credit cards were all canceled so Scooter quietly paid them and helped her home. Later that day, Gonzo kicked her out of the house with no money. Scooter finds her trying to get a job at Ace’s Bar and decides he’s going to offer a housekeeping job with an endgame of winning the girl. But Gonzo doesn’t like that Kathleen has a new man in her life and he causes trouble.
   I could not put this book down, it was so good. You do not have to read the previous books in the series to enjoy this book.

   Need to read more
   This was my first book by this author. I don’t normally jump into the middle of a series, but this one had me adding the rest to my TBR. The characters were easy to relate to and very likable. The plot kept me engaged, and I LOVED that Tex showed up in person!
   I did think sometimes the writing seemed a bit formal, and the ending was kind of abrupt. But overall, it was a good read, and I will read the rest of the series.

   Loved Scooter & Kathleen!
   Yet again this author has proven to me why I love her stories. This one held me captive from the very first sentence to the very last word! The depth of emotions I felt while reading was unreal. Scooter and Kathleen are perfect for each other in every way. For years they have fought their feelings for each due to life and relationships. So when things take a turn for the worse for Kathleen, Scooter will do anything to help her. I rooted for them throughout this story and didn’t want it to end. Scooter is so lovable and Kathleen is so endearing that you can’t help but fall in love with them. Plus their chemistry is so sizzling I thought I saw flames come off my Kindle. An absolutely perfect story. Loved it!

   Adorable
   Scooter’s Endgame is the 5th book in the Operation Checkmate series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone. It is a mostly clean romance, with only hints of spice, an adorable side character, some angst and drama. While I liked both Scooter and Kathleen, I never felt the heat or attraction between them. Nevertheless, I rooted for them to get their HEA and they do.
   I received an advanced copy from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.
