So far so good after three 6 hour runs
I am new to generators and after doing some research, settled upon this generator. My goal was to have a generator power my main kitchen refrigerator, a portable A/C unit, a fan and some other miscellaneous equipment.
I learned two things quickly, you want a inverter generator so you can run anything with electronics in it, which is pretty much almost everything nowadays and that Honda and Yamaha are the gold standard when it comes to quality, reliable generators.
I ultimately decided on Yamaha over Honda because this one had wheels and it could take a surge for 10 seconds up to 3500W.
We had a massive heatwave over the weekend(August 2020 in California) and into this week. My power was out 3 times over the course of 5 days. As I was coming home from getting groceries on day 1, the power went out and as soon as I got home, I handed grocery put away duties to my wife and kid while I got the generator setup.
I had absolutely no issues with the generator. It just fired up and worked. I plugged in my fridge and a/c and a fan and everything ran like a dream. No food spoilage, stayed cool and only had to peek at gas levels once in a while. I also tested it in economy mode and zero issues. Repeat the above two more times for the other two power outages. There’s nothing exciting to say because it just worked. I’d say the gas at full power will last up to 9 hours.
I decided on 3000W because the fridge and a/c equal 1900W while running, which left plenty for startup watts(more important number but there is no startup watts on the labels). That left me with 1000W and 1500W peak load. It also leaves me a little room for other things. I’m really happy with my purchase.

ef3000iseb: overall an ok product, but can’t recommend because of replacement part costs
I’ll go over the pros and cons. I’ve owned 2 of these over the years
pros:
-they are quiet
-they are (*mostly) a very reliable product *see cons
-electric start
cons:
-the overall design hasn’t changed since the early 2000s; 2002 I believe. It’s a clunky looking design, imo
-very heavy and hard to lift
-when they do fail it tends to be electronic components (inverter circuit board often is the culprit), and replacement cost of these parts is extremely high, often enough to make it not worth repairing, even if every other component on the machine is perfectly fine. I had this happen.
2 stars for an iffy track record of durability…

Hidden expensive problem
Very good, quiet generator. But after several year it began surging and running erratically. I was the the control unit had failed and that a new unit would cost $750 not including labor. Just be aware.

Have not been able to put a large load on it yet, but fired up on the first pull. Do not forget to follow setup directions, does not ship with oil,

All the bells and whistles
I did a lot of research on this Yamaha generator. I read several websites, and almost 159 reviews before I bought this generator. I only found one bad review, and I was not confident in the person making the review knew what he was talking about. Some of the concerns others had with the Yamaha EF3000iSEB Portable Generator is that it ships with the electrolytes not in the battery but in a separate container in the same box. Well, it does. But pouring the electrolytes in the battery is safe and easy. It comes in a clear plastic container that pushes into the top of the battery and punctures the container at that time and it dumps into the battery. Not one drop lost and absolutely no mess. Then you take the cap that comes off that container and push it in the top of the battery to seal it. It had a nice tight fit. I also read a lot of reviews from other website that sold this generator. I would say 80% of them complained about the shipping company used. Mentioning that it was not delivered when promised (up to two weeks late in one case). Some saying that the shipping company only got it as far as their place of business and they had to go pick it up from there. I was nervous about this, but noticed none where saying this on Amazon.com. I ordered here several time before so I went for it. The shipping company Amazon.com used was CEVA. Amazon did say it was being delivered on Good Friday. I didn’t think that was going to be the case, and I was right. In my case that wasn’t a big deal. CEVA called me the day before that and told me I had a two day option. The next Tuesday or Thursday. Which is often expected since I live in Northern Michigan. I picked Tuesday, and he gave me a three hour window. I asked them if it was possible for him to have the driver call 30 min ahead so my wife could leave work and meet the driver, because I could not do so. He said sure, I even gave them a different number to call than they had on their paperwork. And you know what, they did it. The driver called 30 min ahead, and it all worked out. CEVA delivered it in a box truck, driver was extremely nice. The wife had a flatbed cart to push down the driveway to the back of the truck. The driver offered to put the ramp on the truck so she didn’t have to lift the generator. She said she try first. This generator weight 157 lbs. That is pretty heavy. But they did it. So I give this experience with Amazon.com and CEVA five stars. Both companies did what they said they were going to do. I want to say when I was researching generator my intentions were to buy a Honda. But due to the fact of all the great reviews I read about this generator and Yamaha, and the fact that Honda only comes with a 1 year warranty, and the Yamaha EF3000iSEB Portable Generator comes with a 3 year warranty. So I went for this one. I am extremely happy with it. When I turned the key the first time it fired up, and I can not believe how quiet it is. I brought the wife out to take a look and listen. We talked for ten minutes with the generator at our feet running, and never talked louder than a normal conversation. This is a good buy!!!!
